Milk Tart ~ Melk tert

A lovely traditional tart with Cornflower and Cinnamon that you don't have to bake in an oven or microwave.

A lovely traditional tart with Cornflower and Cinnamon that you don't have to bake in an oven or microwave. 

Ingredients

  • 1 Tin condensed milk (385 gram)
  • 3 Tins of full cream milk measured in the empty condensed milk can
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tablespoon custard powder (15ml)
  • 1 Tea Spoon vanilla essence (5ml)
  • 2 Tablespoons Maizena (corn flour) (30ml)
  • 1 tin of milk (using that empty condensed milk tin to measure)

Method

Base
  • Crumbed biscuits with enough butter to moisten the crumbs. Press into the base of an oven dish.
Filling
  • Add condensed milk as 2 tins of milk to a heavy based saucepan and bring to the boil slowly and remove from the heat
  • Mix the other ingredients and the 3rd tin of milk making sure you don’t have any lumps.
  • Add the mixture to the boiled milk and put back on a slow heat
  • Keep stirring with a whisk and at the first sign of boiling, remove from the heat and pour your crumbed oven dish.
  • Dust with cinnamon while still warm
  • Cool down and enjoy

Tip: Take your time with this recipe and heat and boil everything slowly. The slower it boils the better your result is going to be.
